Overview

Muscle diseases not only include disorders affecting the muscles but also disorders of neuromuscular propagation. According to the classification of Walten and Nattrass there are more than 650 forms of neuromuscular diseases, all with varying etiologies.

The causes of muscle diseases are multifarious. They can be congenital, infectious, metabolic, toxic or autoimmune.

Investigation of creatine kinase (CK) allows diagnosis and follow-up of muscle diseases. Especially in cases of Duchenne muscular dystrophy, CK values can rise over 25,000 U/l. CK can easily be determined in the physician's office with the Reflotron® Plus or Reflotron® sprint instruments using Reflotron® CK.
