Measurement of blood glucose is predominantly indicated to screen for, to detect and to control hyperglycemia due to diabetes mellitus as well as to monitor its treatment. Also, it serves to diagnose suspected hypoglycemia.
Impaired fasting glucose and impaired glucose tolerance are observed as pre-diabetes, and they are associated with a high risk for developing diabetes. There is also growing evidence that people with impaired fasting glucose are at an increased risk for micro- and macrovascular complications.
The recognition of diabetes and following the progress of the disease in primary care are of prime importance in the medical practice. Even if patient self-monitoring plays a dominant role, doctors must also regularly monitor their patients.
Roche Diagnostics' near patient testing products of the Accu-Chek® series, the Accutrend® Plus system, and Reflotron® instruments are designed for fast, easy and reliable measurement of blood glucose in your office. Accu-Chek® and Accutrend® Plus system can also be used for self-monitoring of blood glucose by patients with diabetes. For determination of urine glucose use Combur-Test® urine test strips, which can be automatically read by the Urisys 1100 analyzer, in addition.
