Overview

Intestinal cancer usually develops slowly over the course of several years, occult blood in stool being one of its initial symptoms. It has been shown that screening for fecal occult blood reduces intestinal cancer mortality, since 90 % of intestinal tumours can be cured if detected early.

hemo FEC® from Roche Diagnostics is an easy, quick and cost-effective test for the detection of occult blood in stool. Test procedure is simple and does not require handling of feces in the laboratory. A positive test result in one or more cards should lead to a complete colorectal examination which is usually performed by colonoscopy. A negative result cannot rule out colorectal cancer but by repeated testing, as required for screening purposes, false-negative results are clearly reduced.
